Current Vintage Overview
2015 represents the fourth year of California’s current drought cycle. As a result, Spring commenced three to four weeks early, with little to no frost. Yields were normal, but an early bud break contributed to one of the earliest harvests on record with Sauvignon Blanc harvested in early August, some three weeks ahead of schedule. Acids remained bright and balanced with the deeper mouthfeel of the early ripening fruit.
Tasting Profile
The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of contrasting vineyards: Larkmead Lane, with its alluvial gravel beds just down the street from Blueline, elicits a vibrancy, stony minerality, and crisp Granny Smith apple tang; and Varozza in St. Helena, with its 46 year-old head-trained vines and intensely rich, pure fruit. Between the vineyards and the three fermentations (stainless steel, seasoned oak and new oak), we make up to seven distinctly different interpretations before blending to create a complex, layered wine that is both vibrant and rich.
Primary aromas of lemon and lime zest, orange blossom and Granny Smith apples are followed on the palate with flavors of limeade, hay, white peach, pineapple and vanilla bean.
