Vintage Overview

The 2007 vintage was one of the more balanced, stronger vintages of the first decade of the new millennium, reminiscent of the growing conditions of 2002. Our second year with the vineyard proved to be a breakout vintage as the ‘07 Blueline Cabernet Sauvignon would go on to place first in Fine Wine magazine’s “Napa Top 40 Cab” tasting, besting many of Napa’s elite Cabs to include Harlan, Colgin, and Bryant Family.   

Tasting Profile

The 2007 Hourglass Blueline Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and deeply concentrated. Doughy blackberry pie, brioche, soy, licorice and mint meld with hints of sage to elicit an intertwining sweet and savory character. The palate is dense with flavors of cassis, dark fruits, and black cherry as the presence of a stony minerality—a hallmark of the Blueline vineyard—infuses a bright, lively energy. Nicely polished with medium-plus body, ripe refined tannins surround a densely packed center core of fruit, lending a soft mouth feel and lingering finish to its compact density.

Cellaring Potential

As we are still learning the aging arc of Blueline, we are not sure if this wine will undergo a transition phase, as the 2006 is in currently, or slide seamlessly into more aged characteristics. As a riper vintage, the 2007 Blueline Cabernet Sauvignon is showing beautifully now with generous fruit. Our recommendation is to enjoy it over the next year or so.
